"When life gives us lemons, don't just make lemonade. Embed the seeds in good soil. Grow some lemon trees and harvest lemons. Sell them! Or make lemon cupcakes, lemon curd and lemonade or citrus jam and other gifts for yourself, friends and others." -Flora Tan I recently was given a bag of lemons from a friend. With this bag, my girls and I turned them into a mindful moment. We made lemonade! Pure joy from just cutting the lemons in half, squeezing the juice, adding sugar and water, stirring and Voila' lemonade.
I am grateful for the bag of lemons that was given to us because when life gave us lemons, we created a mindful moment with them.

Don't lose who you are in the blur of the stars Seeing is deceiving, dreaming is believing It's okay not to be okay Sometimes it's hard to follow your heart Tears don't mean your losing Everybody's bruising Just be true to who you are Who you are, who you are, who you are Who you are, who you are, who you are Who you are, who you are, who you are Who you are, who you are I love to listen to music. I am pretty open to listening to all genres of music. As a former indoor cycling instructor, I would lean towards more current pop songs, now I listen to anything that resonates with me. I recently heard a song titled, "Who You Are" sung by Anna Clendening but originally by Jessie J. Some of the lyrics are above, which caught my attention the first time I listened to it. The words in this song connect with me because in my work, that is what I truly want for everyone. "Just be true to who you are." We were all created equally, no one better than anyone else. We were created to follow our heart and allow each other to follow theirs. Learning to live our lives, being true to who we are is the work. Once we are able to understand this, everything in life opens up! Amazing!
Take a moment, think about a song that you connect with, one that resonates with you. Notice how that song makes you feel. Don't ever forget to "Just be true to who you are." "Dinner is better when we eat together." -Unknown My 8 year old said to me the other day, "I like when we sit down together to eat." I took a moment to realize how important eating together was. I remember as a kid, my family ate dinner almost every night together. No television, no phones, just quality time together enjoying the food in front of us and sharing about the day. I am so grateful that my mom and dad instilled this in me.
Take a moment and think about the last time you sat down for a meal at home. During that meal, you enjoyed the food and/or the company. Notice how that makes you feel. Being mindful of when we eat, what we eat and who we eat with can make for a more positive attitude about food. Challenge yourself at your next meal to practice a little mindful eating. Enjoy!
Take a moment, sit on the floor, put your feet together, close your eyes, think of butterflies and take three deep breaths. Notice how taking advice from a child makes you feel.
I observed my five year old doing this the other day. I couldn't help but be proud. She is such a gentle soul. I know that my example of practicing Mindfulness will take her and her sister into the world and be able to conquer it in a healthy way. Our children are our future, so it is extremely important to give them the skills to manage all that life will give to them. |
